War das eine Arbeit, den Golfplatz anzulegen! Das konnte der Herr Doktor ja erst, als er das Land bis über die Hügelkuppe gekauft hatte. Das war schon deshalb nötig, weil dort ein Hochbehälter für Wasser aus dem Rotenbachtal steht. Und den konnte der Herr Doktor ja nicht auf fremdem Grund und Boden bauen.

Aber dieses Wasserversorgungssystem ist schon praktisch, auch wenn ich nicht richtig verstanden habe, wie das Wasser über den Berg kommt. Aber ich bin ja auch kein Ingenieur. Es erleichtert uns Gärtnern die Arbeit jedenfalls ungemein. Überall im Park, oftmals an versteckten Stellen, gibt es Wasserhähne. Was müssten wir sonst an Gießkannen schleppen! Das Wasser wird auch aus der Saale hochgepumpt, und das Regenwasser vom großen Dach der Villa wird aufgefangen. Alles ist zu was nütze, das sagt der Herr Doktor immer.

Zur Pflege des großen Golfplatzes haben wir übrigens einen kleinen Traktor. Der hilft uns auch, die Obsternte abzutransportieren oder Kompost auszubringen. Und manchmal dürfen die Kinder auch mitfahren, dann strahlen sie glücklich!

Laying out the golf course was quite a job! The Doctor could only do it, of course, once he had purchased the land extending beyond the crest of the hill. That was necessary because an elevated water reservoir - fed from the Rotenbach Valley - is located there. Naturally, the Doctor couldn't build that on someone else's property.

Still, that water supply system is really handy, even if I haven't quite grasped how the water gets over the hill. But then again, I’m no engineer. In any case, it makes the work much easier for us gardeners. There are taps all over the park, often in out-of-the-way spots. Just imagine how many watering cans we’d have to lug around otherwise! Water is also pumped up from the Saale River, and rainwater is collected from the villa’s large roof. Everything has its use - that’s what the Doctor always says.

By the way, we have a small tractor for maintaining the large golf course. It also helps us haul away the fruit harvest or spread compost. And sometimes the children get to ride along, too - their faces just light up with joy!
